The city of Dubai connects the world to the Middle East through land, sea and air. That is why the government of Dubai has invested heavily in its infrastructure to make it a world class environment. One of Dubai’s prized assets is the Dubai International Airport which is the hub to the famous Emirates Airline, and also the home of the Dubai Duty Free. The Department of Civil Aviation runs the Dubai Airport which is located in the Al Garhoud area of Dubai on 8200 acres of land. The airport is the sixth busiest in the world in terms of cargo and is ranked 14th in the world for passenger traffic.

History
Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum started construction of the original Dubai Airport in 1959. The work was completed in 1960 and included a 1,800 meter long sand runway, a small terminal and a few buildings. As the city grew so did the airport and more buildings were added including safety features. A new asphalt runway was completed in 1963, and in 1976 the Airport Fire Services were added and by 1978 the Airport Restaurant and Transit Lounge were expanded. Further additions and expansions kept the airport workers busy. In 1984, a second runway was added. Terminal 2 was opened in 1998 and in 2004 work on Terminal 3 was started. Terminal 3 became operational in 2008. -

How to get to Dubai International Airpot
By Metro
The goverment of Dubai has built a metro stop right inside the airport so that commuters can easily access the facilities by using either Airport Terminal 1 Metro Station or Airport Terminal 3 Metro Station.
By Bus
The Airport Terminal 1 bus station drops passenger right in front of the Dubai International Airport. Bus numbers 4, 11A, 32C, 33, 42, 48, 64A, 88 and C1 serve this station.
