Chicken Parmesan has its origins in the southern Italy. It is a combination of crispy chicken, tomato sauce, and cheese. The main ingredient which gives the chicken its distinct taste is the Parmesan cheese. The cheese is melted on top and even the look of the dish is irresistible. It can be easily prepared at home with simple ingredients and is quick to make. Adults and children love it alike. The recipe can be easily doubled according the number of people being served.
Ingredients
- Cooking oil - ½ cup
- Boneless skinless chicken breast halves, flattened to ¼" - 2
- Extra virgin olive oil - 1 tbsp
- Cloves garlic, pressed or minced - 4-5
- Egg, beaten - 1 large
- Salt - 1 tbsp
- Pepper - ½ tbsp
- Italian style dry bread crumbs - ¾ cup
- Freshly shredded Parmesan cheese, separated - ¾ cup
- Prepared marinara sauce - 2 cup
- Mozzarella cheese - 1 cup
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 35o degrees. Wash the chicken and flatten it. Turn the stove on medium high and heat the cooking oil in a frying pan of big size.
- Take a mixing bowl and mix the garlic and oil together. Spread this mixture on the chicken breasts which have been flattened.
- If there is enough time, cover the marinated chicken and put it in the fridge fro 2-3 hours.
- Even if you cannot marinate for that long, do not forget to apply the garlic and oil. It gives a lot of flavor to the chicken.
- Beat the egg with a whisker and season it with salt and pepper.
- In another plate, mix together half cup of Parmesan cheese and the bread crumbs.
- Take each chicken breast and first dip it in the egg so that it is completely coated and then dip it in the bread crumbs to form a layer.
- Put the chicken directly in the oil so that the crumbs do not fall off.
- The chicken should be golden brown on both sides.
- Put the chicken on paper towels when fried. Put the chicken in a prepared baking dish. It should be greased with oil. Pour the marinara sauce over the chicken.
- You can make it at home or use store bought. Bake the chicken for half an hour at 350 degrees. Sprinkle the cheese on top and bake it for 10 minutes more.
- Serve it hot and top it with the remaining cheese.
