Skin discoloration, especially on the face, is not uncommon. There are several reasons for discoloration, but most of the time sunlight is the culprit. Extensive sun exposure – without any protection sunscreen, hat etc – causes skin damage, which leads to formation of red and brown spots on your face. Fortunately however, such discoloration is temporary and can be fixed easily using home remedies.

– Buttermilk

    Lemon juice and sugar

With a sharp knife, cut a regular sized lemon into half and squeeze its juice in a small bowl. Add one teaspoon of white sugar to the lemon and mix well to form a paste. Now gently rub this mixture onto the areas that need treatment.  Leave this mixture on for 10 to 15 minutes. The sugar in the mixture would remove the dead skin cells from the top layer, while citric acid in lemon juice will act as a natural bleaching agent. After 10 to 15 minutes, rinse your face off with cold water. Treat your discolored skin areas with this lemon mixture every night before going to bed, the dark spots on your skin would begin to fade in two-week’s time.

    Buttermilk

Buttermilk is a very effective DIY home remedy for red or brown spots on your face. Buttermilk contains lactic acid which acts as an exfoliant, softening your skin, and also promotes the healing process, allowing healthy and fresh skin cells to replace the dead and discolored ones.

Dip a cotton ball in buttermilk and gently rub it over the discolored spots on your face in a circular motion. Let the milk stay on your face for 5 to 7  minutes or until dry, then rinse it off with cold water. This is an extremely effective home remedy for freckles. Apply buttermilk on your freckles each night before sleeping and you would notice a considerable change in three to four weeks.

Aloe vera gel has been used for thousands of years to heal and moisturise skin. Cut an inch long piece of aloe vera leaf from a living plant and press it a little to squeeze the gel. Rub it over your face using your fingertips, until it is completely rubbed in and let it stay for a while. Continuous use of aloe gel should fade your freckles in two to three weeks.
