How to Make a Masquerade Mask At Home
Masquerade ball is an event in which the participants attend the event in a costume of their own choice with a mask on their faces to hide their identity. Masquerade Masks offer an extremely delicate and elegant look to one’s face. These masks are popular for women of all ages, and are one of the most common features of Halloween parties.
There are several types of masquerade masks available in the market. However, they are extremely expensive despite their elegant and delicate look. If you want to spend little, and you still want to have a mask that can compete with any other available at the stores, one can make it at home with the help of some simple things. Apart from their inexpensive nature, these masks will also perfectly fit on your face.
Things Required:
– Petroleum jelly
– Plaster strips
– Water
– Chopstick
– Sand paper
– Clear paint
– Colored acrylic paint
– Embellishments
– Hot glue gun

Once you have purchased all the items, the first step in making a masquerade mask at home is to apply petroleum jelly at your face, specifically at those parts where the mask will fit. Make sure that you apply extra petroleum jelly over your eyebrows and hairline in order to prevent your hairs from plaster.

Take two strips of plaster, and wet them gently in lukewarm water. Apply the wet strips of plaster across your face over your nose in such a manner that an X has formed. It will be the base of your mask. After applying over the nose area, continue applying wet strips of plasters around that area while ensuring that you leave out space for your eyes. Apply at least three to four layers of plaster strips.

Let the plaster strips over your face to dry for around 25 to 30 minutes. Once the plaster strips are hardened, peel them off from your face. Make sure that you peel the plaster mask very gently or else it can damage your skin as well it can break into pieces.

Take a chopstick, and attach it to one side of the mask with the help of wet plaster strips. Allow the plaster mask to dry overnight.

Take the sanding paper, and sand the plaster mask. Make sure that you sand it very gently to make it smooth. All the edges should be sanded to give the mask a shape and roundness. After sanding the mask, apply two to three coats of clear paint to seal it.

Now with the colour of your choice, paint the mask. Allow the paint to dry before attaching ribbons, feathers or any other embellishment with the help of hot glue gun.
