How to Make Avocado Deep Conditioner

In addition to being eaten in salads and dips, avocados are great for conditioning hair, as they have a high fat content, and contain oils that moisturise, and rehydrate hair. For a simple and effective deep conditioning treatment that is completely organic and chemical-free, try making an avocado deep conditioner at home, to nourish and replenish your hair.

Things Required:

– 1 avocado
– 1 egg
– 2 tbsp coconut milk
– 1/2 tsp olive oil
– Blender
– Spray bottle
– Shower cap

Instructions

  • 1

To begin, make sure you start off with a firm, ripe avocado. If you have long hair, use one and a half sections of a large avocado, or a full medium-sized avocado. However, if your hair is short, you can use half of a medium-sized avocado. Tailor the quantity you use to the length of your hair.

Use a sharp knife to slice the avocado in half. Then, you can either scoop the pit out with a spoon, or wedge the blade of your knife into it and give it a twist, to pull it out.

  • 3

Next, remove the skin of the avocado. Again, for this purpose you can either use a spoon to scoop the avocado out of the skin, or simply use a knife to peel the avocado. Given the buttery, smooth texture of the fruit, the skin should not be difficult to remove.

  • 4

Once the pit and skin have been removed, toss the avocado into a blender. Then, crack open an egg, separate the yolk from the whites, and add the yolk to the avocado in the blender. Finally, pour in the olive oil and coconut milk. Turn the blender on, and pulse until the mixture is smooth and every ingredient is well combined.

  • 5

Dampen your hair (you can use a spray bottle for this purpose), and smooth the avocado deep conditioner into your hair, from the roots to the tips. You will also need to massage it into your scalp, for maximum effect.

  • 6

Once you have applied all of it, wind your hair up, and put on a shower cap. Leave it on for anytime from 20 minutes to overnight, allowing it to penetrate and deep condition your hair. The longer it stays on your hair, the more nourishment it will be able to provide.

  • 7

After you have kept it on for as long as you want, shampoo, condition, and dry your hair as per your normal routine. For maximum effect, do not blow dry your hair, or use any other heat treatment – rather, allow it to air dry, as this will help it retain its moisture and shine.
