How to Shrink a Nylon Shirt
Nylon is light synthetic material used for making clothes especially t-shirts and shirts. Being synthetic, it is harder to shrink in contrast with garments made with natural fibres such as cotton. You can always check the tag of your nylon shirt and see the components. If it is made up of a mixture of nylon and other products, it can be shrunk easily. Usually clothes can be shrunk by washing in hot water and then drying under high heat settings. However, nylon fabrics may be damaged or melt under high temperature or high heat conditions. Before taking decision of shrinking nylon, you should decide whether you want to risk the garment or not.
Things Required:
– Clothes washer
– ½ cup ammonia (optional)

Wash the shirt
You need to wash the nylon shirt in hot water. You can wash it either in a washing machine or in a bucket. In order to prevent your garment’s colour from fading, you can add ammonia. You need to pour half cup of ammonia in the hot water. -

Dry the shirt
Now you need to dry the shirt. Place the shirt in the dryer and turn it on. Use medium heat settings when using a dryer. Remember to let the dryer continue drying the shirt after it is dried. You need to let it dry for almost 15 to 17 minutes. -

Repeat to shrink according to the desired size
After pulling out the shirt from dryer, your shirt will be shrunk. In case you did not get the desired size you can repeat the process. You need to wash the shirt in hot water again and then repeat the drying process under medium heat settings. By this you can further reduce the size of your nylon shirt. -

Avoid washing in hot water after shrinking the shirt
Once you have shrunk your shirt, you should avoid washing it in hot water. This will damage the nylon fabrics of your garment. In addition to this, you should avoid higher heat settings of your dryer when drying the shirt. It can also damage the nylon shirt.
