Apple TV SDK and Apps to Be Announced At WWDC

Recent reports have indicated that California based Apple will soon be putting up an app store similar to its iPhone app store to allow users of its Apple TV to purchase third party software. The company will also be releasing a SDK so that developers can create apps for the Apple product. It has also been reported that the makers of the popular iPhone and iPad will be releasing the Apple TV SDK at World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco.

Apple’s WWDC 2012 was expected to showcase some major upgrades to several products but not many people were expecting a major announcement. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, recently made vague statements about the Apple TV in an interview which had many people guessing that the company was looking to introduce an innovation with the Apple TV. The latest reports seem to strongly suggest that there will be an announcement at the WWDC.

Apple TV sold 2.8 million devices last year and the product has sold roughly the same number of units this year. The numbers are not bad but pale in comparison to Apple’s other popular products like iPhone and iPad. Since the release of the Apple TV five years ago, the product was dubbed as a “hobby” for the California based company.

With the release of the Apple TV SDK, the company is bringing in innovators to help it build a platform for its much talked about Apple television set. It is rumored that the new iOS6 will be the basis for SDK and makes it compatible with iPone and iPad. This will give developers already working on apps for the iPhone and iPad another device to work with. This sort of integration is something that many people have not yet seen and once a buyer has a specific Apple device, they could be inclined to by another device that works well together.
