Google Asus Nexus 7 Tablet Review

The recently launched Asus-branded Nexus 7 tablet is hard to get your hands on this weekend as the device has been selling like hot cakes. Google’s move to launch Nexus 7 is more of an effort to outcast the upgraded version of Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, which is expected to launch in August this year.

The tablet comes with 7.8 inches x 4.7 inches in size and is 0.4 inches thick. While comparing with 14.6 ounce Amazon Kindle Fire, it is just 11.9 ounce. The tablet offers reasonably dense 7-inches display and has a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution to gaze upon. However, it is not comparable with Apple Retina display, but it is very sharp indeed, and features high quality display.

The tablet is loaded with a powerful battery having a capacity of 4,325 mAh and gives a battery time up to 9 hours while playing a movie on it, and around 10 hours during web browsing, and more than 250 hours of standby.

From a hardware perspective, the Google Nexus 7 is equipped with quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3, which also brags a 12-core GPU for gaming. 1GB of RAM makes the tablet speedier and is a perfect device for gamers. Sadly, it does not have a rear camera but 1.2 megapixel front facing camera is ideal for video chat. The Nexus 7 comes in two models, one is equipped with 8GB internal memory, which cost around $200 while the other comes with 16GB internal storage and priced around $250. One drawback that is worth mentioning here is that it does not have a microSD expansion slot, so users have to be in the limits of maximum 16GB storage.

The good part is that it is comparatively smaller in size than an iPad or Galaxy Tab. Both Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire have the same screen size. The sound quality of the phone is quite decent and the speakers produce extremely promising noise, and most importantly its microphones which are quite intelligent in terms of picking up sound while using Google Search and Speech to Text.

The processing speed is very attractive due to the 1GB of RAM and the speedy quad-core processor. It delivers high quality and quickly browsed videos on YouTube and other video streaming websites.

The Nexus 7 is the best of its breed as it clearly beats the Amazon Kindle Fire by leaps and bounds from a hardware perspective. At the moment, it is found to be the best 7-inch tablet on the market and can certainly compete with Apple’s iPad. Undoubtedly, it lacks rear camera, high storage capacity and a larger display with high resolution, but because of its low price it will definitely grab the market even without those additional functionalities.
