How to Cook the Perfect Omelette

Although immensely popular, preparing a good old omelette seems to be one of those things that few people master. That golden half circle chalk full of ingredients such as onions, peppers and mushrooms along with cheese is an appetizing and healthy option any time of the day.

If you do not succeed the first time (we know you will, but still), keep working at it. As the old adage goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Prep time: 30 minutes
Yield: 2 servings

Ingredients:
Eggs: 3
Cooking oil or butter
Salt and pepper
vegetables
meat
cheese as desired
milk (optional)

    Additional Ingredients

    If you are using additional ingredients such as vegetables and meat, feel free to cook them in a separate pan. Once they have cooked, keep them aside to be added to the eggs later.

    Cheese can be grated as desired and kept aside as well.

    Set the Heat

    Place the skillet on the stove top and set to medium-high. Coat the bottom the skillet with the oil of your choice, cooking spray or butter. We recommend a good healthy oil such as canola or olive.

    Allow the pan to heat as you prepare the eggs.

    Mix it Up

    Crack your eggs and place them in your mixing bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste. Using your whisk or fork, mix the eggs until the yokes break. If you prefer your eggs fluffy, continue to whisk the eggs until well mixed and slightly bubbly. Also feel free to add some milk for a soft and tasty omelette.

    Cooking

    Once the oil or butter has heated (will smoke slightly) carefully pour the beaten eggs into the skillet. Allow the eggs to cook on medium-high heat. Be sure to push the outer edges of the eggs into the middle of the skillet to ensure that they cook.

    Continue to push the outer edges of the egg towards the middle for about 2 minutes or when the egg appears almost cooked. The key indicator of this is that the eggs begin to turn white and appears slightly creamy and moist on the top. The edges should begin to crisp.

    Add to the Fold

    Once your eggs have reached this stage, feel free to add your other ingredients (if you have any) to one half of the eggs. The easiest thing to do is place them on the right half if you are left-handed and vice versa.

    Using your spatula work the edges of the egg once again. Once you have done so, use your spatula to get under the half of the eggs that are not covered in ingredients and gently fold this half of the eggs over the other.

    This should create a half circle with the ingredients between the fold. Allow to cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

    The Dismount

    Remove the skillet from the heat and bring towards the plate. Place your spatula under the omelette to ensure that it is not stuck . Gently guide the omelette onto the plate.

    Allow to cool slightly and enjoy eating your creation.
