How to Use Lye Soap

Lye soaps were made hundreds of years ago in America and were used for almost every purpose ranging from cleaning to shampoo purposes. It is made up of only few ingredients which form lathering bar when mixed together. In addition to this, it was used to treat many skin problems or ailments including mosquito bites and poison ivy. Overall, lye soap is a cleanser and most commonly known for stain removing and skin treatment purposes. It is known as ‘the Appalachian cure-all’ and helps in warding off fleas or pests from pets. You can easily purchase lye soaps from health stores or online. Furthermore, they can be made at your home.

Things Required:

– Two bars lye soap
– Cup
– Towels
– Vegetable peeler
– Sock

    Fill a bathtub with water

    You need to fill a bathtub with water. You can fill deep sink with water in case you have a small pet, like a cat. In case the outer temperature is warmer, you can wash your pet outside. It is advisable to use warm water as not only your pet will enjoy but  the soap will be easier to rinse also.

    Soak your pet

    After filling the bathtub, you need to soak your pet with the help of a large cup. However, do not throw water on face of your pet. You can wet the face with your hands.

    Apply lye soap

    Next you need to apply lye soap on your pet. You can either form lather into your hands or simply work it on your pet. It is advisable to start from the area around neck and then move towards the rest of the body. By starting from the neck, you will fend off fleas from the face area as well. Remember to let the lye soap sit on the coat for few minutes.

    Rinse with water

    After applying lye soap, you need to rinse it off with water. Use fresh water from the tap for this purpose. Remember that fleas might have jumped in the water so it is advisable to use fresh water.

    Repeat if necessary

    If required you should repeat the whole process again. You need to throw away the water and re-fill it with warm water. Then apply lye soap on the pet again.

    Dry your pet

    In the end you need to dry your pet. Simply use towel for this purpose.
