Best Summer Lip Colors

While winter tends to be about deep, rich shades of lipstick, summer is all about the bright, the bold, and the beautiful. Playful, shiny, and colourful lipsticks are all the rage for summertime, and the hotter, fruitier, more daring shades are the first to fly off the shelves. In preparation for summer, make sure you get your makeup kit ready beforehand by experimenting and looking for the right bold shades for your particular skin tone.

No matter what, hot shocking pink will always remain a classic lip color for summer. Inspiring thoughts of fresh, juicy berries, shades like hot pink, fuchsia and magenta are a sure-fire win for summertime. The shinier and more saturated the color, the better – hot pink is not the sort of shade that can or should be toned down. If you want to go all out, go for shades like Avon Glow Lip Gloss in Ultra Violet, Bodyography's Electric Lip Slide in Cheeky Baby, or Saint Germain Paris lipstick in Rose Violet. A more understated pink would be  Clinique's High Impact Lip Color SPF 15 in Magenta Rose, or Calvin Klein's Delicious Fusion Moisturizing Lip Color.

If hot pink is not your thing, go for a subtle, prettier option in coral. These lip colors come in a variety of sunset shades, ranging from coral pink to fiery hot red-oranges. Besame’s Carmine color and Maybelline SuperStay 10Hr Stain Gloss in Cool Coral are both great options. The coral shade varieties tend to exude a more relaxed, tropical vibe with citrus overtones, as compared to the fierce cosmopolitan nature of hot pink shades.

Gold is a quintessential summer color, given the incessant sunshine, with tans and sun-kissed skin all around. Shimmery, molten, glossy golds are the perfect way to complement a tan or blonde highlights, but make sure you stay away from the matte varieties – if you opt for gold in summer, it should be gloss all the way. Check out the SuperSHOCK Liquid Lip Shine SPF 15 in Bronze Blitz, or the CoverGirl Queen Collection Lip Gloss in Antique Gold, if you plan to go for the molten, gilded look.

Hot red is an all-time classic, and the rules don’t change in summertime. However, while winter and fall feature reds that have darker, rustier undertones, summer is all about bright, bold red lip colors, like the L'Oreal Paris Infallible Never Fail Stars Collection Lipcolour in Beyonce's Red, Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in True Red, or Boots No7 Sheer Temptation Lipstick in Smoulder. If you are more of a gloss person, look for Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Candy Apple.
