How to Freeze Baby Food

Making baby food for your child provides the peace of mind in knowing the freshness, quality and composition of what you feed your child. Rather than preparing each meal individually, it is strongly suggested that you make the food in large batches whenever possible and freeze whatever is to be used at a later time.

Freezing maintains your food’s freshness while also allowing you the luxury of storing food for a long time.

The following guide details everything you need to freeze your baby’s food safely and easily.

What You Need

– ice cube trays

– baby food

– plastic cling wrap

– a spoon

Instructions

  • 1

    Cubed Up

Ice cube trays provide one of the best ways to store and freeze food due to the ability to store individual sized portions.

Prior to using the ice cube trays, be sure to sterilize them. This can be done by placing them in the dishwasher and setting the machine to sterilize. Another option is placing the trays in a boiling pot of water. Be sure to check if the trays can be boiled from the manufacturer's website.

  • 2

    Spoonfuls

Once your trays are sterilized and dry, spoon equal portions of baby food into the tray.

  • 3

    Wrap Up

Use plastic cling wrap to cover the ice tray securely and completely. This wrap will protect your food from freezer burn and contamination.

  • 4

    Freeze and Store

Place the ice cube tray in the freezer. You will be able to store the baby food for weeks or even a couple of months.

Once the cubes are frozen, you can remove them from the tray and transfer to a freezer bag. This will allow you to use the tray for more food or ice.

  • 5

    To Use

To use the food, simply pop it out the tray like you would a regular ice cube. You can thaw the baby food in either the fridge (in a sealed container for 24 hours) or in the microwave.

If you elect to microwave thaw, stir the food well and test the temperature before feeding your baby.
