Marylebone Tube Station London

Located about half a mile from famous Madame Tussauds and Sherlock Homes Museums, the Marylebone tube station, commonly recognized as London Marylebone, has a distinction to serve both; the central London Railway as a terminus and London Underground as central complex. It is also special among all the terminal points of London underground because it does not have any electric line, and allows only diesel trains. Originally, it was opened in 1899 to serve as terminal point of the Great central Railway with its four platforms (the actual plan was to make 10 but since the company bankrupted, it was restricted to only four), but with an increase of the population near it, the station was also upgraded with underground system. To further cater to the needs of a growing number of commuters in travel card zone 1 on Chiltern Main Line, the station was upgraded with two new platforms in 2006. Since then, its annual usage has increased to 12 million and these users have also been provided with certain facilities such as shops of some top brands, cash points, public house, flower shops and barber as well as toilets. Commuters can make their entrance to the ticket hall by making entrance to the underground station through the main concourse of the National Rail Station entrance, and then walking for about 25 m. The same route should be used to exit from the ticket hall. Places to explore near Marylebone Tube Station.
