How to Celebrate Mela in London

London Mela is a free carnival for all the families, where people get to see the London artistically led festivity of Asian culture and creativeness, stirred by South Asia and the Diaspora. This Mela offers almost everything that one can find at the original melas of South Asia such as dance, mix music, food, drama, theatre and much more. Therefore, London Mela today is not only a source of great family entertainment, but it also a platform for budding British artists, on top of that brings conventional and classical art forms to a wider viewers. It is a fine example of true inter cultural event that has something for every age group of every community.

    History:

    London Mela first took place back in 2003, after the Mayor of that time and the Ealing Council encouraged people to organize an event, inspired from South Asian culture. The first London Mela drew nearly 60,000 people and later this number kept growing each year and in 2012 90,000 people are expected to attend this carnival.

    Activities:

    Since London Mela takes place in Gunnersbury Park, London therefore it is segregated into eight sections, where visitors can find eight various fun things to do. This includes a zone of modern, new and classical music, Djs, street art, dance, comedy, visual arts and children’s area. In addition to this guests can also relish different cuisines of the world on this event and a giant funfair. All these celebrations are strongly inspired by South Asian customs.

Head southwest on Gunnersbury Ln/A4000 toward Gunnersbury Crescent further continue onto Pope's Ln/B4491. Turn left toward Gunnersbury Ave and then turn right onto Gunnersbury Ave. View Map

    Bus users should use bus number E3 and N11 in order to arrive at Gunnersbury Park (Stop), which is the nearest bus stop to Gunnersbury Park.Head east on B4491 turn right toward Gunnersbury Ave and finally turn right onto Gunnersbury Ave. The distance between the bus stop and this park is close to 0.4 miles.
