About Pride London Festival

London is a city of attractions & festivals and because of these activities, it attracts millions of visitors every year. The tourism industry in the city is very strong and it organises many events and festivals throughout the year, especially in summers. Pride London festival is one of them and it is run by a charity aimed to promote equality, and to provide awareness against discrimination based on an individual’s sexual orientation. The whole festival is managed by volunteers so that maximum funding can be utilized for the original cause. The festival offers a number of programs including theatres, art galleries, music and debates and the biggest amongst its events is Worldpride Parade which is attended by hundreds of thousands of people every year.

    History


    Pride London is a charity based in London which arranges LGBT events for lesbians gays, bisexual and transgender people. The first UK gay Pride rally was held on the 1st of July 1972 and approximately 2000 people joined that rally at that time. Section 28 of the UK constitution caused a controversy in 1979, which led to a march of Gay and Lesbian people, and then in 1983, the march was named as Lesbian and Gay Pride. Later in the 1990s, the march took a shape of Carnival. Pride London was formed in 2004 as a charity, and since then, it is managing the Pride London carnival and all the events related to it.

    The festival does not have fixed dates, but it is usually organised in June-July every year. The Pride London festival 2012 is scheduled from 23rd of June to 8thof July 2012.

    How to Get to Pride London Festival Head Office


    By Tube


    You can get to Pride London festival’s head office by reaching Piccadilly Circus tube station. On leaving the station, head east on Coventry Street and take a left onto Great Windmill Street. After 318 feet, continue onto Shaftsbury Avenue, then turn left onto the Rupert Street. Continue walking on to Walker’s Ct, and after 167 feet turn left onto Peter street.     By Bus


    You can also get to Pride London Festival’s head office by bus. Take bus number, 38, 14 or 19 to get to Trocadero Haymarket stop which is located very near to the location.
