Department for Culture Media and Sport London

Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) was established in 1997, succeeding the  Department for National Heritage. The department is formed to set policy and strategy for the culture and sport sector of England, and media/broadcast sectors of the United Kingdom. The policy areas includes arts, broadcasting, internet and international ICT policy, telecommunications and broadband, creative industries, film and music, historic environment, architecture and design, cultural property and heritage and alcohol and entertainment licensing. It also promotes and lays out policies for gambling and racing, press freedom and regulation, libraries, museums and galleries, national lottery, tourism and sports. It would also oversee the whole of London 2012 Olympics event.

    In collaboration with other departments, it promotes and funds art programmes.

    In addition to describing policy for national libraries, the department also works in association with Arts Council England to address a host of issues.

    Lotteries
    The National policy and law for lottery is formulated by the department which also includes its financial parameters.

    Tourism
    The policy for tourism industry is also designed by the department aware of the fact that tourism is a growing industry.

    How to Get to DCMS

    By Tube

    From the Charing Cross tube station, move northwest towards Trafalgar Square/A4. Exit the roundabout onto Trafalgar Square/A4 and continue to follow A4. DCMS will be on your right. View Map

    By Bus

    The bus stop of “Trafalgar Square (S)” is just around the corner from the DCMS. Buses numbering ‎9, N9, N18, N52, N97, N550 and N551 will drop you at the bus stop. From there, move a few steps towards the west and you will reach the DCMS.
