How To Get Poisons Licence In London

The Poisons List order 1982 contains two lists of poisons. The first list of poisons can be sold only by a registered pharmacist. However, in order to sell the second list of the poisons, a person should be registered with his or her local authority. Therefore, it is necessary for sellers of the poisons in the second list to obtain a licence to sell poisons like drain cleaners, sanitary fluids, descalers, strong disinfectants and weed killers over which part two of the Poisons Act applies.     Registration Requirements:

    The requirements of  registration for selling part two poisons in the Poisons Act are as:

    - Registration must be ensured at the local Council.
    - The forms of registration can be acquired from the London Boroughs and Trading Standards and Licensing.
    - Sales must be effected from the building mentioned in the council’s list.
    - Applicant should also mention the name of his or her deputies in the registration details.
    - This licence, once awarded to someone, cannot be transferred to another person or company.

    Fee:

    The fee to acquire a licence for selling poison in London is currently £65 for one year. This fee can be changed, subject to the policy. The seller must renew his or her licence each year on May 1.

    Poisons Storage Requirements:

    The part one poisons in Poisons Act should be kept out of the reach of kids and must not be put together with the foodstuff. In comparison to them, poisons that are listed ‘YES’ in column 2 of List A in guidance index should be stored in a drawer or cupboard that is used only for keeping poisons, or in a separate area which is not accessible for public, or on a shelf that is reserved only for strong poisons if the shelf below it is not used for keeping food.

    Restrictions Regarding Buyers:

    Poisons that are spotted as ‘YES’ in the guidance index in List A’s column 2 should only be sold to a person who the sellers should know, and the buyer must either sign the Poisons Book or provide the seller a complete signed order that should state his or her name, trade, address and purpose of usage as well as quantity required. In case of an emergency, buyers can provide a signed order within 24 hours of the purchase.

    Labelling of Poisons:

    The seller must label all poisons with his or her name and address of the location from where it is sold.

    Penalties and Offences:

    In case of a penalty the fine is up to £2,500 and if a person is penalised for any offence by the court of law and the court believes that this person is not fit for selling non-medical poisons then the defendant can lose his or her licence.
