    Contacting your Local Council

    You need to contact the local council of your area in London and obtain an application form to get a license for special treatments.

    Responsibility of the License Holder

    The local council may demand that the license be displayed all the time in the premises. The License holder will take responsibility of all the work or activities taking place in the premises and will adhere to the requirements of Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.  The License Holder would also make sure that all technicians doing the special treatment, especially body piercing or tattooing, are qualified / trained appropriately. All safety equipments, sterilizers, boilers etc would be inspected or checked regularly and each client will be given written aftercare advice.

    Exemptions for the need of License

    You may be exempted from requiring a license if the special treatment is to be carried out by or under the command of a medical practitioner who is registered by General Medical Council. Or a dentist registered under the Dentists Act 1984 will do the acupuncture. An individual may also get an exemption from getting a license if a person is a fully registered Osteopath or a conditionally registered Osteopath under the Osteopaths Act 1993. Also, if the premises is registered under the health professions order 2001, or it is a public hospital or nursing home, then also will an exemption be made.
