The Horniman Museum & Gardens is to be found in Forest Hill, South of the British capital. The contract to build this museum was given in 1898 and it was opened within 3 years. Frederick John Horniman, who founded this museum, put roughly 30,000 items in it that he collected from different parts of the world. His collections include musical instruments, natural history and cultural artefacts. Today these collections are open for public display, as Horniman Museum comes under the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, which is a quango. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport runs Horniman Museum as a registered charity and company under the English rules and regulations.

    History of Horniman Museum & Gardens:

    Horniman Museum & Gardens was established by a businessman called Frederick John Horniman, who had a great tea trading business in 1901. Frederick John Horniman used the money from his tea business for this museum, as with the help of the cash he was able to collect about 30,000 items which include musical instruments and artefacts amongst others. Later in 1911, Frederick Horniman’s son gave away additional building as donation.
