    History of Battersea Park

The area of this park was known as Battersea fields before 1846. In 1845, an application was made to the parliament to form a park. An act was passed in favor and the parliament promised to reserve £200,000 to purchase the land. The money was given and was spent to buy 320 acres of land out of which 198 acres were used to build the park, which was opened in 1858, and the rest of the land was assigned for building leases. The original design of the park was laid out by Sir James Pennethorne but the final design was slightly different from it. In the 1860s, the Battersea park was also home of Wanderers football club.
