History of The Pump House Gallery

The Pump House Tower was built in 1861 in Buttersea Park to house an engine that would circulate water in the lake. A fire broke out in the 1950’s, affecting the Pump House and calling for a repair. The Wandsworth council took over the charge of the park and the tower in 1986 and kicked off its refurbishment programme. Subsequently in 1999, the tower was used as an exhibition centre of contemporary visual arts.
