How to Give and Get Respect

People often don’t realize the need to be respectful, and find themselves alone or dealing with bitter or broken relationships. Life is a give and take experience – dictating your ability to gain respect, which can only be accomplished by holding others in similar esteem.

Instructions

  • 1

    Honesty

Be honest to others and you will see respect coming automatically. Lie and the respect factor will be thrown out of the window. If you can’t be honest, you can’t expect others to trust and respect you.

  • 2

    Judging

Being judgmental will only force you to look at the negative aspects of others. You must accept the fact that no one is perfect and in turn you will find that people will be ready to accept you for who you are.

  • 3

    Humbleness

Being humble in nature is a valuable trait. Singing your own praises or treating yourself superiors to others and being arrogant will only make matters worse. However, this notion must not be confused with confidence. Your actions must be positive where you are able to value yourself and your accomplishments.

  • 4

    Listening to others

Listening is a great way to gain respect of others. If someone is expressing their feelings to you, don’t pretend to be a deaf as others will also ignore or disobey you in the future. The only reason anyone wants to talk to you is because they value your opinion.

  • 5

Making promises and sticking to them

Don’t make promises if you can’t follow through. This is the most common way of losing trust. Make sure that you are able to complete the task and help others out in the hour of need. Although, it may do you little good, but that shouldn’t stop you from doing the right thing.

  • 6

    Go the extra mile

Meeting expectations is always nice, but in some cases, it will be going beyond those expectations that will prove your character. When others see you going the extra mile, they will start respecting you.

  • 7

    Apologizing

If you have lost the trust of others, the best way to get it back is to apologize. Accepting your fault will not only solve the situation but show your sincerity.
