How to Lay Bluestone Tiles Outdoors

If you want to add a distinct and beautiful look to your house, you can lay a bluestone tiles outdoor. It is not very difficult to make your own bluestone tiles outdoor walkways or patios. However, you do need to learn and follow a specific procedure to lay it down. Besides, you also need some special tools for the job.

Things required:

– Wooden stakes
– Chalk
– Tape measure
– Shovel or excavator
– Paver base
– Tamper
– Levelling sand
– Rake
– Level
– Rubber mallet
– Grinder with diamond blade
– Safety glasses
– Dry moss or polymeric sand

Instructions

    First of all, you have to take all the necessary measurements of the place where you want lay down the bluestone tiles outdoor walkway or patio. You can use wooden stakes to mark the area.

    After taking the measurement, you have to mark all the tiles with the chalk. Then, take pictures or make sketches of all specific places where you are planning to place the tiles.

    Take a shovel and start to excavate the area. You have to dig around six inches down. Keep removing the dirt while digging.

    Now, take loose paver base stones and fill the excavated area with them. You have to fill the area with the stones according to the size of your tiles.

    After that, you have to tamp the area with the base stone with a vibrating compactor or a manual vibrating compactor.

    Then, pour around one inch layer of the sand and spread it evenly by using a broom or rake. Now, set your tiles at the exact places and make sure that you placed each one of them in the right manner. You can place the tiles in any direction or design or your choice.

    After placing the tiles, tap them so that they may get settled down evenly. You can use rubber mallet to tap down the tiles.

    Take a grinder and score the tiles along the mark of the cut-line. Then, tap the score line with the help of the rubber mallet and position the tiles according to your design.

    If you see any excess sand or other material, remove it from the place. Then, lightly spray the place with some water to make it wet. In this way, the tiles will be locked with each other.
