How to Make a Healthy Trail Mix for Kids

– Granola bars
– Raw nuts (pecans, almonds, walnuts)
– Dried fruit (cherries, pineapple, dried cranberries, cherries, blueberries, and apricots, peaches, apples and bananas)

    Granola bars are going to make the base of your trail mix. However, you have to be very careful while selecting them. Not all granola bars are healthy. Choose the ones which are not coated with sugar. Choose bars that are low in sugar and calorie count. Bars with high healthy fat content are most welcome. You can also use peanuts as the base.

    The next option is to choose the nuts. Nuts are a great source of proteins. Choose nut varieties that are your child’s favorite. However, one thing that you have to take care of is that the nuts should be raw. Do not used canned which are fried and salted and high on sugar. The less processed food you use, the healthier it is.

    The next ingredient you have to assemble are dried fruits. The most commonly used fruits are listed above. Dried forms of almost all forms are available. Choose the fruits according to your child’s preference. Some fruits like bananas and pineapple have more calories than the rest.

    Now you have to mix all the ingredients in the right ratio. Whatever quantity of trail mix you are making, the ratio you have to follow for base: nuts: fruits in order is 1.5:1:1. Pour everything in a large bowl, shake everything together and then divide into sachets and zip bags for portability.
