How to Throw a Left Hook in Boxing

Most of us are aware of how to deliver a punch to the opponent in a boxing match, but the ideal situation would be to knock the other person down in such a way that he/she doesn’t manage to continue the fight afterwards.

This cannot be done through any normal punch, as we have to do something special to achieve this goal. You might have heard about the left hook in a boxing match, but it is not an easy move at all.

Other than having strength, you will need proper balance, flexibility and precision to deliver the blow. In order to master the left hook, you will be required to do a lot of practice otherwise, you will be unable to get maximum output and lose the fight eventually, especially if your opponent knows the right moves.

    Take a normal boxing stance

    Some people think that delivering the left hook requires a unique stance, which is absolutely wrong. You need to position your body normally, so that you are well balanced and in the position to attack your opponent. If you change your stance while delivering any move, the other person will pick that up easily and counter attack to pin you down.

    Practice in front of a mirror

    If you have not hired any trainer, you will be unable to find out the flaws in your boxing technique. So, the best thing to do in such a situation is to practice in front of a mirror, so that you can see what mistakes you make while delivering the left hook. Continue practicing this move for hours daily in order to master it. However, don’t try using it in a boxing ring unless you are sure it will work.

    Keep one of your feet locked

    Since you will have to gain momentum through a swing in your leg and torso, you will have to keep one of your feet positioned firmly onto the surface. It will provide support to the other leg and you will be able to swing the torso perfectly. Moreover, you will gain maximum momentum in your arm to deliver the left hook.

    Transfer weight on the left side

    As the name of this move suggests, you will have to transfer the weight of your body on the left side. This way, you will be able to gain maximum benefit from the left hook and your opponent will be unable to stand on his/her feet again.
