It is better to start in a roller blading rink where they have hand rails and support on the sides to help you with the balance. Wear the blades and start walking in the rink holding the handrails with one hand so that you have a support. Once you know how to balance, you can slowly let go of the rope and get on your own. If you have a friend who is good at roller blading, ask him/her to help you. He/she can hold you hand to lead you and will do the same job as the rope does in the rink. Rinks also have softer floors and walls which help against injury in case you fall. You can also learn quickly when you see others around you doing the same thing.

It is better to start with walking instead of skating from the first day. Wear the rollers in one feet and leave the other bare. Now start walking. The bare feet without rollers will give the balance to stand on ground while the one with rollers will help get a feel of the sport. In time, you can practice skating lightly with the bare feet up. Wear the rollers and start walking with both feet. Upgrade to skating only after you ace walking.

In the initial days, guard your posture against any fall and accident. Bend you knees for greater support and stretch out your hands. This position will give you greater balance and guard you against any injury. With practice, you can straighten up slowly as you get the balance of it.
