How to Reduce Chronic Bruising

Falling, minor accidents, bumping into something or the dropping of something heavy on the body give birth to the ugly Chronic Bruising, also known as hematoma or contusion. Bruises are usually greenish, brownish, purplish, reddish or bluish in color. They appear as a result of the breakage of the tiny blood vessels, soft tissues and leakage of the blood. Though Chronic Bruising is nothing perilous, but the pain, swelling, and discoloration of skin make it an unpleasant experience. Unrelieved bruising looks ugly, especially on the exposed parts of the body. However, there are numerous easy methods to reduce Chronic Bruising that you can carry out yourself at home.

    Reduce the Chances of Swelling

    Bulge can make the unwanted bruise worse. So reducing the chances of puffiness should be your main focus. Bring the traditional ice pack into play for this purpose. Place it on the bruise and leave for the next 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat this activity after every one hour and continue it for first two days. It not only trims down the swelling and contracts the blood vessels, but relief the pain as well.

    Hot Compresses Works

    After 48 hours, start treating the chronic bruising with warm compress. It alleviates the pain and swelling process. Let a soft warm compress sit on the bruise for few minutes. Repeat this activity after every 30 minutes or an hour.

    Eat Healthy Foods

    The food you eat can have an impact on your chronic bruising. Increase the intake of the rich sources of vitamin C and K as they are useful in clotting blood and stimulating the healing process. Oranges, strawberries, lemons and black currents etc are the powerhouses of Vitamin C (citric acid) while broccoli, cabbage, and dark green vegetables etc are high in Vitamin K. avoid spicy food items and alcoholic beverages.

    Get Proper Rest

    Rest the chronic bruises as much as you can in order to enjoy a speedy recovery. If possible, keep the affected part of the body elevated in order to decrease the blood flow to this portion.

    Try Herbal Tea

    Herbal tea is not only cost-effective, but very useful when it comes to reduce the chronic bruising.  Pour one quart of water into a kettle and bring it to boil. Add 2 teaspoonfuls of hawthorn leaves, hawthorn berries, orange slices, ginkgo leaves, and rose hips to the boiling water. Let it simmer for the next 5 minutes, over medium-low heat range. Remove the herbal tea from heat and set aside for 10 to 15 minutes until it steeps well. Strain the tea and add in some pure honey, sugar or lemon drop for taste – if you like. Drink one to two cups of this herbal tea each day until you get rid of the chronic bruising.
