Introducing Journal writing to a teenager can be full of surprises. Generally, most of the teenagers are not fond of reading or preparing journals and consider it an activity of old age people. Thus, most of the teenagers try to escape the journals. Not to mention, it is widely considered as something tough and hard to maintain. However, if want to introduce the journal writing to a teenager, you must ensure that he knows the difference between a journal writing and a normal diary writing.

Tell him the difference
It is of utmost importance that you should explain to him the difference between the journal writing and normal diary. You should also tell him that it is not a girly activity and it should not be filled with his emotional feelings. Tell him that he should not try to stick with the journal diary all the time and you can show him the simple notebooks, the distressed leather books and online journals. If you have a journal of your own or your father’s then you must introduce your kid to that as this will help him a lot in establishing the difference. -

Ask him questions
Teenagers have their own perception of the writing. Some consider it to be merely related with poetry while others think of it something to be filed with romance. It is of reasonable value that you ask question from the teenager and know what he thinks about writing journals. This will also help you in understanding whether he has interest in journal writing or not. Not to mention that you will also be able to know about his thinking and understand him. You must ask his views on different topics from sports to hunting, cars and wild life. -

Tell him to write a sample
You should start with the sentence completion test. Here, you can write first half of a sentence and ask him to complete the sentence. After you have done it a couple of times, you must now give him 5 minutes and let him write whatever he wants. -

Help him read journals
You should aid the teenager by suggesting some of the good journals. Note that this will play a strong role in building his knowledge. -

Now you can ask him to make a journal of his own. He can easily find plenty of journal sites that allow a person to form the layout of journal according to his own choice.
