Carving things out of wood is high on this list, since it is one of the easier things to do and it is also a lot of fun to actually do it. It helps you create just about anything out of wood, and then enjoy the finished products.

One of the more common things to do, is to carve out animals from wood. Out of all the animals out there, carving a duck decoy has proven to be one of the easier and more fun things to do, since it doesn’t require a lot of extra effort and time to make.

Firstly go, go ahead and identify the type of duck it is that you are looking to create. This isn’t going to be easy to do, and is going to require you to spend a lot of time and effort figuring out just what it is that you want to do. Now after you go ahead and figure out the duck that you want, draw it out on a piece of wood and then cut this piece of paper out so that you can easily move it around.

Now take this pattern that you have drawn and lay it on a block of wood, that is big enough to see you carve out the duck from it. Draw the pattern from the paper onto the wooden block, so that it easier for you to carve it out.

Secure the block with a clamp so that it can stay in place. Now use a saw and cut out the pattern that you transferred onto the wooden block via the piece of paper.

Now start carving out the outside of the block and slowly make your way to the inside. Now pay extra attention to the head and the neck. Once this is done and you have vaguely created the duck, you need to take it to the next level.

Start putting in detail on the beak and the tail. Now after you have put in all the detail that you possibly can, you need to start painting the duck. Make sure you follow the natural colours, or your decoy would be easily spotted.
