Instructions
-
1
To begin, make sure your face is completely clean. Wash it with your regular daily-use facial wash, and pat it dry. Then, follow it up with a good, oil-free moisturiser – smooth this into the skin all over your face, and allow it to seep in entirely.
-
2
Next, select a liquid foundation that is at least a shade or two lighter than your natural skin tone. Blend this over your face evenly – start with the eye area, and gradually smooth it into the temples, the cheeks, chin line, and then down to the upper neck. Finish by covering areas like the forehead and nose.

Once you have created the pale base, start working on creating the characteristic dramatic eyes. Apply a thick line of black eyeliner to your upper eyelid, making it thicker as it extends to the outer edge of your eyes. Sweep it upwards beyond the corner of the eye, to create a cat-eye look. Then, line the lower lid with another thick line under the lower eyelashes.

Then, apply eye shadow to the eye crease – shades like dark gray or charcoal will work best, and you can blend these into the crease with either a brush, or your fingers. Next, sweep the eye shadow over the bare lid, and smear it in an upward motion at the outer corner of your eyes. Finally, to complete the eyes, use an eyelash curler to curl your lashes, and sweep on two or three heavy coats of mascara.
-
5
Now that the eyes are done, you can begin working on your lips. Debbie Harry was known for full, pouty red lips with a dramatic winged-shape at the top of her upper lip. If you do not have this natural heart-shaped curve, you can create it with a lip liner pencil – you will also need to extend the lips a little at the outer line of the top, and draw the bottom lip fuller than it is. Finally, fill it all in by applying bright, glossy red lipstick.

6
Finish it off by applying a light dusting of pale finishing powder all over, concentrating on the forehead, nose, under the eyes, over the cheeks and chin, and finally the upper neck area. Your Debbie Harry-inspired makeup is now complete.
