What is Constructive Criticism and How Can It Help

Nobody likes to be criticized, period – positively or not.

Yet positive criticism is the essential part of improvement in nearly every walk of life. It is a technique through which the discrepancies can be sorted out within any system and solutions to them can then be found.

People respond to different situations in different ways and the same holds true when it comes to absorbing the criticism. You will come across many people who will react angrily to your criticism even when your intent is good. This however does not mean that you stop helping them and mind your own business. Instead, this calls for developing interaction and correspondence techniques which can help you convey the same message in a more amicable way.

Off course, you should never criticize a person if you don’t have enough insight into his/her working or personal circumstances. There is nothing worse than an ignorant person making vile assertions about something he doesn’t even have the slightest idea about.

You should be up-to-date about the subject and should keep in mind that it is done for the right reasons, and in way that it seems like a discussion.

Remember your constructive criticism can go a long way in helping someone improve his/her methods and behaviour; so never shy away to do so, when you find the situation appropriate.

Adds to the insight of the person being criticized

Constructive criticism can help the subject increase his/her knowledge base and insight. Consider the example of a editor and a writer. If the editor keeps on pointing the weak points of the writer in an amicable, it will only be a matter of time when the writer will learn all the tricks of the trade, and will begin to give flawless articles. On the other hand, if the editor avoids confronting the writer, he will get into a comfort zone and then it will be very difficult for him to break the improvement barrier.

    Develops trust

Your constructive criticism may not be received well in the beginning, but when the person in focus starts to reap its benefit, he will realize your effort and concern. It will be then, when he will start to trust you and be able to develop a close working relationship.
