Difference Between Heart Attack and Stroke Symptoms

Most ordinary people believe that heart attack and stroke are just two different terminologies for a same disease; however, this is not correct and there is a major difference between the two.

Symptoms of heart attack and stroke are also different. Heart attack symptoms follow a typical pattern most of the time. Chest pain, pressure, heaviness or tightness in the chest, pain or pressure in the neck or jaw, pain or pressure in one or both arms (especially the left) , shortness of breath, sweating, nausea and pain or throbbing between the shoulder blades are common symptoms of heart attack. The symptoms of stroke occur suddenly and they include numbness or weakness of face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body, confusion or trouble speaking or understanding speech, trouble seeing in one or both eyes, trouble walking, dizziness, or loss of balance or coordination and severe headache with no known cause.

    Heart attack

A heart attack is referred to damaged heart muscles and is a result of a improper flow of blood. In most cases, a blood clot is formed in the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscles and the flow is blocked. Consequently, the heart begins to malfunction.

In the modern world, the medical awareness has increased; however, the health levels continue to deteriorate and there are more and more heart patients every year. Major reason behind the increased number of heart attacks is our poor eating and sleeping habits. On top of that many people avoid any kind of physical activity or workout. By eating healthy and adopting a strong exercise schedule, you can minimise the risk of a heart attack.

    Stroke

The blockage of blood in an artery which supplies blood to the brain is called a stroke. Stroke symptoms do not include any kind of pain most of the time; however, it is most likely that you may lose your ability to move during a stroke.

In most cases, strokes affect only one side of the body. In order to avoid the confusion between a heart attack and a stroke, the medical community is trying to change the name of stroke to ‘brain attack’.
