How to Create a Photography Background

Photography is probably the most challenging way of expressing artistic skills. Even if you are planning to do photography just as hobby, you need to learn the basic techniques. It is not all about getting a camera, and start clicking.

In case you are interested in indoor photography, you need a good background besides camera and tripod. It might prove a little expensive exercise. If you want to save some money, try to make a photography background on your own. It is not tricky at all. All you need is some simple material and a little time.

Things Required:

– Flat sheet (full or larger)
– Muslin (9 feet by 9 feet)
– Fabric dye
– Paint
– Twine or string
– Tarp or garbage bags
– Paintbrush
– Feather duster
– Scissors

    First of all, identify the area where you want to make the background. You may build a portable background, but it will be very hard for you to move it from one place to another. So, it is best to choose the place for your studio before making any move.

    Try to be as creative as possible. In case you don’t have a large area to play with, you need to be really careful. Creating a background is not all about joining different things. You need to be creative in order to make it look nice.

    Purchase a solid flat sheet and drape. These items will help your create a simple background. Drape is available in various colours, but prefer solid black, dark blue or white backgrounds, as they are best for product photography.

    Tie-dye a piece of muslin fabric. Before dipping the damp fabric into the paint, wrap twice all around it. Once the dying is finished, remove the twine with the help of scissors.

    This step is about splattering paint on to a piece of plain fabric, preferably muslin or solid-coloured sheet. Here comes the element of creativity. Take a large paint brush, and flick the paint on the fabric. You can use different colours in order to create a graffiti effect.

    The final step is feather-painting the piece of solid-coloured sheet. For this, take a feather brush and dip it into a bucket of contrasting colours. Keep painting the fabric until it is uniformly coloured.
