Making film strip with GIMP involves joining multiple images together to form film. This task can be easily done by any individual and the film strip can be used to present multiple images to the viewers in an efficient manner.

    You need to download GIMP freeware from the internet without paying a cent. The official website from the developers is http://gimp.org/ and you can follow the link to download and install the software to your computer.

    Start GIMP and go to the ‘Tools’ frame to proceed. You will find the ‘Open File’ button there and click it to select the image files you desire to make the film strip off.

    Hold the shift button and click on all the images simultaneously to select the pictures for your film strip. GIMP allows you to choose image files of many different formats, such as EPS, TIFF, JPEG, RAW, NEF and Photoshop formats, and you can use them to make the film strip.

    All the images you selected will open up in separate windows. Choose any window and click on ‘Filters’ and then ‘Combine’ buttons. You will have the option of ‘Film Strip’ and you should click on it to proceed.

    You will see the image you selected in the ‘On Film’ box, whilst the rest of the images are shown as available. Add images to the filmstrip by clicking ‘Add’ button. Select the order of the images according to your requirement and also check the ‘Fit Height To Image’ option as well (if you have images of different dimensions).

    When done with the numbering of images, save your work by clicking ‘Save As’ button from the ‘File ‘ menu. You will have the final image in the form of a film strip.
