Difference between Mexican and Puerto Rican

Many people have the misconception that Mexicans and Puerto Ricans are the same which is wrong. Mexicans and Puerto Ricans are two different people who have different cultures, countries and appearance.

Mexicans belong to Mexico, which is a country located in North America, whereas Puerto Ricans belong to Puerto Rico, which is a territory of the United States in the Caribbean.

Mayans and Aztecs are known to be ancestors of the Mexicans along with the Spanish colonies that ruled the area. On the other hand, Tainos and African slaves are known to be the ancestors of the Puerto Ricans.

Although both Mexicans and Puerto Ricans speak Spanish, there is a difference in the accent of people from both countries. The Mexicans are clearer in speaking the language in comparison to the Puerto Ricans. There is a difference in the grammar and punctuation of the language both people use.

There is also a difference in the cultures of Mexicans and Puerto Ricans. Their cuisine is different from each other. Mexicans love to use beans, spices and chillies in their food whereas Puerto Ricans like to use cassavas and plantains in the food they cook.

Puerto Ricans have no prohibition on entry into the United States of America whereas rules are strict for Puerto Ricans in this case. The appearance of the two also differ as Mexicans usually resemble their Spanish or Indian ancestors whereas Puerto Ricans may be of different ethnicities as their ancestors include African slaves and Spanish also.

Their ancestors include the aboriginal Tainos, African slaves and Spanish colonizers. The people of Puerto Rico speak Spanish and are generally from different ethnicities. They can be from African, Spanish or Taino descent. The Puerto Ricans use different ingredients in their food and usually eat tostones, pastilijos and plantains.
