How to Make Kid Clay for Art Projects

Kids and adults equally enjoy making art projects out of clay. Instead of spending invaluable money to purchase clay from an art store, you can make the clay at home. The ingredients required are readily available and inexpensive. As a matter of fact, you would have the required ingredients at home already. Furthermore, to make the piece of art more attractive, you can add colour to the clay or paint the baked art project later.

Things Required:

– Mixing bowl
– Flour
– Salt
– Water
– Vegetable Oil
– Food colouring (Optional)
– Paint (Optional)

Instructions

    Add 2 cups flour and 1 cup salt to a mixing bowl of appropriate size. Mix together the ingredients of the bowl by stirring with a spatula or a spoon. Make sure that the mixture is uniform and there are no flour or slat lumps in the bowl.

    In another container, prepare a mixture of 1 cup water and 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Stir this mixture and pour it into the contents from the first step. Make sure that you keep stirring the dry contents of the bowl while pouring water-vegetable oil mixture. This will prevent the formation of lumps.

    After you have mixed the liquid ingredients with the dry ingredients, knead the contents of the mixing bowl. Continue to knead with your hands until the mixture attains a uniform consistency. This is the clay which your kids can use for art projects.

    You can add a small quantity of water to the clay and knead once again if the clay seems to be too hard. Alternatively, you may want to make it hard. If such a case, add a small quantity of flour to the mixing bowl and knead once again.

    If you want to make the clay coloured, add food colouring of your choice. You can add food colouring of any shade which you think would appeal to your child.

    Give the clay to your child for making art projects. One your kid is done making the projects, bake them in an oven for 45 to 60 minutes at a temperature of 250 degree Fahrenheit. Paint the art project if desired.
