How to Make Carnitas in Slow Cooker
Carnitas are Mexican style shredded pork. They make awesome topping and filling for tacos, sandwiches, salsa, burritos, salads and everything else you want to add them. There is a fabulous new way to cook your pork carnitas; the slow cooker. Carnitas get heavenly delicious when cooked slowly in a cooker for hours. The meat gets a chance to mix with the herbs well. They get tender and flavoursome and you will never use other methods of cooking carnitas. You are going to let the cooker do the job for you while you wait anxiously, trying to calm the butterflies in your tummy.

Utensils: Mixing bowl, cooker, forks, serving platter
Ingredients:
Salt: 1 teaspoon
Garlic powder: 1 teaspoon
Ground cumin: 1 teaspoon
Crumbled dried oregano: 1/2 teaspoon
Ground coriander: 1/2 teaspoon
Ground cinnamon: 1/4 teaspoon
Boneless pork shoulder roast: 1 (4 pound)
Bay leaves: 2
Chicken broth: 2 cups

Take a mixing bowl. Add salt, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, coriander and cinnamon. Combine everything well together. Wash the pork well and prepare it for cooking. Coat it with the spice mixture you prepared in the mixing bowl.

Wash the cooker well before cooking. Place the bay leaves at the bottom. Place the pork on top of the leaves. Now slowly pour over the chicken broth that you have around the sides of the pork. However, pour it on the sides and do not rinse off the spice coating from the pork. The spices make it more flavoursome.

Place the cooker cover and secure it the right way. Turn on the heat on very low settings. Cook the pork slowly. The slower you cook and more time you give to it, the more flavoursome it gets. It can take time, anywhere between six to ten hours. Turn over the meat when the time reaches halfway do that until both sides cook equally. Remove from the heat when the pork shreds using the fork. Shred the pork using two forks. Use the thickened cooking liquid in the cooker for sprinkling over the pork to enrich it. Your carnita filling is ready.
