First of all, you need to plan your ride very carefully. One should always get sound night sleep before going to a long trip. It is never a good idea to drive at night, because the empty roads would surely make you sleep. If possible, try to travel in the daylight.

After every while, take a break of 10-15 minutes. Utilise this period to stretch your muscles and wash your face with cold water. Another move that could help you is walking briskly for a few minutes after every two hours of drive.

  • 3

Try to get a partner when going on a long trip. And if you already have company, don’t let the person sit at the back seat. As long your partner stays active at the front seat, you won’t find any sleep. You may ask him/her to drive for a while.

  • 4

Don’t skip any meal. You are required to eat regularly in order to keep your blood pressure at a normal level. Your body needs good nutrition, so only a sweet candy won’t help your cause. Don’t eat too much though.

  • 5

Take a cup of tea or coffee after every two hours. Remember, even strong black coffee will not take the place of adequate sleep.

  • 6

Avoid drinking any form of alcohol.

  • 7

Don’t take any medicines that make you drowsy. Even if the medicine is essential, you can delay your dose for a little while.

  • 8

You are supposed to learn recognising drowsiness. It is all about being honest with yourself. You cannot lie to yourself. Any yawning or head nods are signs of drowsiness.

  • 9

If you are unable to resist, stop your car at a gas station and take a nap at least for 20 minutes.
