How to Use RSS Feeds in Outlook 2007

Microsoft Outlook 2007 is an email program that comes with Microsoft Office 2007 suite of productivity products. In the recent versions, MS Outlook allows its users to access and manage syndicated feeds or Really Simple Syndication feeds, also known as RSS feeds. After setting up RSS feed information, MS Outlook 2007 periodically checks for updates for all the sites you listed, and if there is any change in the feeds, the program downloads the information to your personal folder. That is the reason why MS Outlook has become one of the widely used management tool for news and general information.

    First of all, you need to make a list of websites that you want to track using MS Outlook 2007.In the meantime, you should list only those websites that offer RSS feeds that are readable by MS Outlook 2007, as the program capable of reading only RSS 0.91, RDF (RSS 0.9, 1.0. and 1.1), RSS 2.0 and Atom.

    Navigate to the website that you want to track and click in the syndication link or the RSS icon. Copy the internet address of the syndicated webpage to the clipboard. Repeat the process for each website in your list.

    Open MS Outlook 2007 with an active account. Go to the “File” menu and select “Data File Management.” Go to the “RSS Feeds” tab and click the “New” button to add new RSS feed. A window will appear on your screen, asking you about the URL of the RSS feed you want to track. Enter the RSS feed URL and click the “Add” button. If a dialogue box appears asking you whether you trust the RSS feed publisher, you should click the “Yes” button.

    You will now see the “RSS Feed Options” window popping up on your screen, asking you to configure the RSS feed you just added. Verify the name of the RSS feed by entering it in the “Feed Name” field.

    The “Delivery Section” section allows you to specify a folder where you want to download the RSS feed data. In the “Downloads” section, you may choose to whether download any “Enclosures” for the particular feed, or any other attachment in the articles.

    Click the “OK” button to finish adding the new RSS feed to your MS Outlook 2007. Repeat the whole process for each RSS feed you want to add to MS Outlook 2007.

    Click the “Close” button after you are done with adding all the RSS feed URLs to your MS Outlook’s RSS feed section.
