People have to relocate due to a number of reasons; the decision to move could be motivated by factors ranging from financial, personal or professional reasons. You may find a new job in another city or you might have to change your educational institute – either way, relocation can be a headache as you have to take care of several things. Apart from being an extremely stressful activity, moving your home is also likely to have an adverse effect on your budget. However, by being resourceful and adopting certain strategies, you can save a lot of money, which can then be spent elsewhere.

1
Do the packing yourself
Instead of hiring someone to do the packing for you, work up the energy to do it yourself. Being the head of your family, you should ask each individual to pack his or her own things. Apart from the fact that it is going to save you a lot of money, unpacking in the new home will be a lot easier if you have done the packing yourself, because you will know exactly where everything is. -
2
Find used boxes
In order to pack your clothes and other items appropriately, you should arrange for used boxes, which are easily available at grocery stores or liquor stores, as opposed to buying new ones. You may also take some boxes from your friends and/or relatives. These used boxes will cost you nothing, and make packing extremely easy for you. -
3
Labour
You will naturally need someone who will be willing to put all the boxes and the heavy furniture into a moving truck. Place an ad in a local newspaper for labour, or print a flyer and put it up in different places like colleges or markets. It is recommended that you decide a flat fee for the labour, instead of paying them per hour. In the latter scenario, the labour is likely to drag the process and it will automatically cost you a lot more. The best thing to do would be to find some guys who are looking for some side money. Professional movers will definitely charge you a lot more. -
4
Go through your contacts for a moving truck
You should go through your contact list and see if you can find someone who can arrange for a moving truck for you at a concessional price - a professional moving service will cost you more.
