1
Realise the fact that while you work at the sewing table, the power needed by the scissors to cut a piece of fabric comes primarily from your shoulders and not your hands. For this reason, you will need to choose a sewing table of appropriate height to prevent subjecting your shoulders to useless strain. Moreover, you back should remain straight while working at the table.

To determine a convenient height of the table, consider placing a long length of fabric on the table top. A part of the fabric should be hanging off the edges of the table. Try to touch the part of the fabric without disrupting its original position. If you were successful, the height of that table is ideal.

If you could not successfully carry out the instructions given in the earlier step, you should look for a table considerably lower in height than the current table. Make sure that you perform the same test with the new table before actually investing in it.

In order to choose the best sewing table, you would visit a furniture retailer in person instead of just placing the order over the phone. Moreover, you should take along a large piece of fabric and use it as in Step 2 to determine whether the table you are planning to purchase is of ideal height or not.

Some furniture retailers may offer a sewing table with adjustable height. Consult a salesperson at the store to determine if such an option is available or not. However, it would be wise to test a table with adjustable height at a number of different height settings before purchasing it.
