If you are tired of the side effects of the chemicals and artificial scents used in commercially prepared shaving creams, try making your own, eco-friendly almond oil shaving cream. The natural oils and herbs used in this recipe are not only cheap but will also sooth your skin and leave behind a mild, spicy scent.

Things Required:

– 2 tbsp. almond oil
– 1/4 cup stearic acid
– 1 tbsp. Shea butter
– 1 cup hot distilled water
– 1 tbsp. Borax
– 2 tbsp. grated castile soap
– 1/4 cup of aloe vera gel
– 6 drops bergamot essential oil
– 6 drops clove essential oil
– Double boiler
– Stick blender or hand whisk
– Airtight jar or container

Instructions

  • 1

Simmer water in a double boiler and pour two tablespoons of almond oil in the upper bowl and allow it to warm.

  • 2

When the almond oil is a bit hot, add ¼ cup of stearic acid and one tablespoon of shea butter to the double boiler and continue to heat the mixture for a few minutes, until it turns clear. Keep on stirring the concoction constantly as you heat it.

  • 3

Once the oil and acid mixture turns transparent, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool a bit.

  • 4

Meanwhile, heat one cup of distilled water in a saucepan. Add two tablespoons of grated castile soap and one tablespoon of borax powder to the hot distilled water.

  • 5

Stir the water and soap mixture over low heat until the soap flakes and borax dissolve completely.

  • 6

Remove the mixture from the heat, add ¼ cup of aloe vera gel to it and set aside to allow the mixture to cool to lukewarm.

  • 7

When the water and soap concoction is cool enough, drizzle it into the oil and acid mixture, stirring constantly with a stick blender or a hand whisk.

  • 8

Blend the above mixture for a couple of minutes and then add six drops each of clove essential oil and bergamot essential oil. Whisk again to combine thoroughly.

  • 9

Your almond oil shaving cream is ready. Allow it to cool completely before you ladle it into an airtight jar or container.
