Arrange books according to size:
Take out all your books. Clean the shelves with a cloth. Now place them back in an arrangement with the largest ones first followed by the smaller ones. Arranging books according to size allows you to save up shelf space by allowing you to stack your books horizontally after you are done the vertical way. This method allows you to take advantage of the height of the shelves. Through this you will have jam packed shelves, fully utilized. -
2
Double stacking:
Double stacking is useful if you have really deep shelves. Sort out your books , separating your favourites and the most used books from the ones which lie there without being opened up for years. Now make a first stack of these less used ones. They will be at the back and hard to reach, Make a front stack of the ones you use more frequently. These books can be easily drawn out at convenience. If you want a book from the back you will have to take a front row book out and then reach for it. -
3
Keep only books in shelves:
Apart from books, albums, clocks, calendars and decoration pieces are also kept on book shelves. This does add to the attractiveness of the shelves but reduces the number of books they can hold which is their primary purpose. So if you are short on shelf space, relocate the extra items you have there to another place. -
4
Give away old books:
Gift, donate or sell your old books. There are some books which you know you will never read again. These take up shelf space. Gift them to a book lover friend of yours, donate to several institutions or sell them online or at old book shops.
