How to Remove Oxidation From Oxidized Plastic Headlights
Yellow, dull or oxidized plastic headlights make visibility difficult at night. It leads to lesser light emitting from the headlights. This oxidation is caused by sun and weather over a passage of time. You do not need to panic as you are not required to spend a lot on this. With some guidelines and with a budget of under $50, you can easily remove oxidation from oxidized plastic headlights.
Things Required:
– Masking tape
– 900 grit sandpaper
– 1200 grit sandpaper
– 1500 grit sandpaper
– Water
– Microfiber towel
– Plastic lens polish
– Plastic lens sealer

Apply masking tape
You need to apply masking tape around the area of headlight. By this you will prevent scratches getting on that portion. It is advisable to apply two or three layers. By this the masking tape won’t tear with the sandpaper. -

Use 900 grit sandpaper
Now you need to use 900-grit sandpaper. Use this sandpaper with water across the headlight. Refrain from applying sandpaper up and down. Remember to keep the sandpaper wet all the time and continue applying until the surface of headlight becomes rough and dull. -

Apply 1200 grit sandpaper
Next you need to apply the sandpaper again on the headlights with water but use 1200 grit sandpaper this time. You need to continue applying this sandpaper until the surface of headlight becomes smooth. -

Use 1500 grit sandpaper
After using 1200 grit sandpaper, you need to use 1500 grit sandpaper. Use it with water and make the headlight’s surface even smoother. Later you need to rinse it and let it dry. -

Use plastic lens polish
Next you need to get a microfiber towel. Apply plastic lens polish on it and then use it over the headlight’s surface. By this the headlights will be buffed. Remember to apply small quantity of plastic lens polish and rub the towel in circular motion. You need to continue applying the plastic lens polish until it appears to be clear and smooth. -

Use lens sealer
In the end you need to use lens sealer on the dried headlight. Remember to apply it by wiping across the headlight and not in up and down motion. You need to let the headlights dry for almost 15 minutes after this.
