How to Prevent Mold on Wicker Furniture

Since its creation in the Victorian era, wicker furniture’s popularity has steadily increased. Wicker furniture is used to make chairs, love seats, chaise lounges, plant stands and tables. It always looks beautiful, whether placed indoors or outdoors. However, mold is a common problem which this type of furniture faces, especially when exposed to rain. Instructions

    Regularly clean your wicker furniture

    Use a vacuum cleaner

You can use a vacuum cleaner in order to regularly clean your wicker furniture. It is recommended that you join a soft brush to the vacuum before cleaning. By doing this, you will get rid of surface dust and debris. In order to prevent scratches, you should take care to clean along with the grains of the wicker, instead of applying the vacuum crosswise.

    Use a soft bristle brush

You need to use a soft bristle brush on the wicker in order to dislodge trapped dust and foreign particles. If you want to remove trapped dust on the smoother parts of the wicker furniture, you can use an old soft toothbrush. For cleaning the legs, you can use a large, soft paintbrush. In order to clean hard to reach areas, you should use a slightly stiffer brush.

    Use tweezers

In order to get rid of trapped pet hair or debris which is not easily removed by the vacuum cleaner, you can use tweezers. Simply pick the objects out with tweezers and throw them away.  In addition to tweezers, you can also use an ice pick to get rid of debris. However, exercise caution when using this, as you do not want to poke a hole in your wicker furniture.

    Location

You need to place your wicker furniture in shaded areas. It is best to place it indoors, in order to avoid exposure to direct sunlight. Besides this, you need to keep the humidity level constant inside your house. This is because high humidity leads to the growth of mold, while lower levels causes wicker to become brittle.
