Difference Between Vegetarian and Vegan

Having the right diet is one of the most important things for one’s health. Often you consume a diet that is unhealthy and has poor effects on your health. There are many options available in the market that is based of varying principles and philosophies. Some of them encourage the consumptions of proteins only whereas some suggest that you should totally switch to liquid diet.

No one solution can claim to be the perfect one and there are pros and cons that are attached with all of these programs. Two of the more common philosophies that you will come across and are increasing by the day are vegan and vegetarian.

Often people confuse them to be the same but in reality they are quite different. A vegan is a person who simply refuses to use any product that has been derived from an animal. On the other hand, a vegetarian does not consume meat and allied products that are derived from the animal by slaughtering or killing it.

The vegans also do not consume any vegetables in which the plant from which it belongs is killed in the process. On the other hand, vegetarians consume all kinds of vegetables and there is no bar on eating potatoes or onions.

    Vegan

    Vegans do not use anything that has been in anyway derived from an animal. They not only eat meat and eggs but also refuse to use dairy products. Similarly, they do not eat most of the vegetables since the plant from which they have been extracted often dies in the process.

    The vegans, also called fruitarians, only eat fruits and seeds, some vegetables and beans. They also eat dry fruits and dairy product substitutes such as soy milk.

    Steve Jobs, the late CEO of Apple, was perhaps the most famous vegan. There are some suggestions that the diet may not be as healthy as it was earlier thought of and more research is being done.

    Vegetarian

    Vegetarians only eat products which are not related to animal meats. Generally they consume eggs though there are some groups that abstain from their consumption as well.

    They eat all kinds of products such as vegetables, fruits, tofu’s, beans, milk and proteins that are not from animal proteins. Many vegetarians actually do not consume vegetables and instead eat snacks that do not involve any animal products.

    Some of the types do not eggs but consume dairy products. There are others who do the complete opposite.

    Health issues have been found with the consumption of vegetarian diet and it may not work too well for everyone.
