The first thing that you need to focus on is the period format in Greco-Roman wrestling. Note that each period is made up of two-minute periods, each of which is divided into two kinds of phases. The first phase is the standing phase that lasts for 60 seconds, while the other phase is the ground phase that lasts for 30 second. In the standing phase, the opponents attempt to earn points from a neutral position, whereas the ground phase involves opponents trying to score points from a defensive position. In case there is a tie, it is resolved through a coin toss.

The next thing that you need to focus on learning is the scoring system. In Greco-Roman wrestling, wrestlers can score points through four ways. They can earn points through takedown, which involves beating an opponent from a neutral position. Another way to score points is through reversal, which involves beating an opponent from a defensive position. The third way to score points is through exposure, which involves the back of the opponent facing the mat at an acute angle. The fourth and final way to score points is through penalty, which involves a wrestler stepping outside the boundary, performing an illegal grab or injuring his opponent. Any of these three violations result in points being awarded to the latter.

There are basically five ways in which the fate of the match can be decided. A wrestler can win either by fall, by technical fall, by decision, through a tie and coin toss in his favour, by injury and last but not the least, by disqualification.
