Difference Between Toffee and Caramel

People love to consume many sweet treats as they enjoy the flavour and taste. There are many options available and all regions of the world have their own specialties. These take time and dedication from the person who is making them as the process can be long and demands great attention. Eating something sweet always brings out the fun side in others and can be a great way to spend some quality time with the youngsters.

Two of the most famous sweet delights which have universal fame are toffee and caramel. Many people tend to confuse the two as being one and the same thing. Although both are sweet and use similar ingredients, there are some differences between them. Most of the differences are based on the ingredients and methods by which they are individually produced.

For starters, the ingredients that are used are somewhat different. Toffee is made from sugar and butter whereas the main ingredients of caramel are sugar and cream or milk as there is an occasional use of butter as well.

Similarly, the temperatures needed for their preparation is different. The temperature that toffee requires is higher than that needed by caramel.

The taste of both is sweet but the eventual form of toffee is rather hard and crunchy whereas caramel is soft and gooey. It is a general consensus that toffee tastes better than caramel, mainly because of the extra heat that is required in its preparation.

    Toffee

    Toffee has been around for ages and people from all over the world belonging to different ages love it. There are many varieties and the eventual ingredients of toffee depend on the local tastes and preferences.

    Butter scotch is probably the most famous toffee. It can be enjoyed on its own or added to other dishes to enhance the sweetness.

    Caramel

    Caramel has a soft structure which makes it fun to eat. It is quite sweet and one must have a pretty decent sweet tooth to enjoy the richness of caramel.

    It is mostly used to add flavour to existing sweet dishes and can really add that extra bit of taste. Some people strictly like to use it separately on its own. It is an integral part of some of the most famous delights that are around.

    The milk and cream that are used during preparation make it gooey and soft and thus it does not have the edges to hurt a person’s mouth or chip their teeth.
