A Guide to Summer Makeovers: New Hair, Pedicures, Facials and Other Must-haves

I don’t know about you but I find myself constantly in the need for more time! I’m always putting myself on the back burner and take care of everything and everyone else first. What woman isn’t right? I’m here to tell you that it’s time to shake up these priorities and give yourself a great treat in the summertime just like everyone is! I’ve compiled a list of ideas that may prompt your own thoughts on how to pamper yourself this summer!

The first thing I absolutely love to do when that warm weather hits is get a pedicure. Just the feeling of my feet being taken care of so they’re pretty enough to show off in those new sandals I bought is such a wonderful thought! This is definitely a must for ALL women. Regardless of whether or not you get a French Pedicure, a pretty design, or have your toes painted clear, it’s definitely a way to make you feel relaxed and comfortable about being barefoot and knowing your feet look pretty! Definitely pamper idea #1! Check your local nail salons for hours and prices. I’ve found that the prices definitely range from salon to salon so make sure you do your homework!

Since I’ve already mentioned a way to make one part of your body feel geared up for summer, let’s talk about facials. This is another great way to shed that winter skin off your face and get that healthy summer glow back. If you want to be productive (which I know every woman does!), plan your facial with your pedicure appointment. A lot of salons have some form of pedicure and facial packages that you can partake in. If you go to a high end salon, there’s a good chance you may be paying more than you’re willing to shell out. However, take into consideration the ambiance and people that surround you and you’ll realize that those extra $10 or $20 were well worth it.

Now, another mood changer is your hair. A bad hair day can really change your mood, can’t it? A good hair day can definitely boost your self confidence that day. But why does it have to be for a day? Why can’t it be, let’s say, for the whole summer?! Hair requires different products for different people. Long thick hair will definitely have a different need than short and thin hair – but I’m sure you already knew that. My point is – a hair cut is definitely in need for the summer! The locks have got to be tamed! I’m not sure how busy your schedule can get but mine is totally out of control – I can barely get enough time to get lunch in let alone sit in a chair for an hour while they cut and style my hair. My solution? MAKE THE TIME! You’ll never feel as good as you do until you get your haircut because it definitely changes your mood for the better! I’ve noticed that the long hair has been very popular lately so you ladies with the beautiful long hair – keep it long but keep it simple. Nothing too drastic in the summertime. Long layers are definitely in. If you have medium length hair – the choppy layer look is still in but not too too choppy. Keep it cute and feminine. Highlights might be a good idea for shorter hair. And for the short boycut hair, try to keep to tousled and a little messy. The out of bed look is phasing out but make it still look managable and as if you spent some kind of time maintaining it! Another tip – bangs are OUT for summer. Don’t do it! You don’t need your bangs slapped up against your forehead with sweat! Keep your hair swept away from your face – we all want to see that beautiful glow!

On to the next idea on the list! I definitely need new make-up for the summer. The darker colors in the winter won’t work in the summer. Try lighter colors with a bit of sparkle or glow to it. I know that Mac Cosmetics has some great options for summer make-up that can give you a great touch-up for that natural look or if you want something a bit more dramatic as well. Better yet, make an appointment with your local make-up artist at the mall (or wherever you’ve sighted a great make-up store) and ask them to experiment directly on you what colors and combinations you may like. A few pointers I’ve found out though, are that in the summer, you don’t want too heavy of a lipstick. Shiny and light are the way to go! Keep your eye make-up light and full of sparkle! The blush should definitely add just a bit of color and sparkle only to enhance your checkbone. Good luck finding the right cominbation for you! Make-up doesn’t have to cover up your face – it’s made only to enhance the positives you already have! My most important point for make-up? Wear the sunblock underneath it! You can find a great selection of sunblock at your local grocery store or even pharmacy store.

Now, what many women consider to be the most important part of being a woman are the clothes! You can NEVER have too much. Right now, the board shorts are in for woman, with its longer than usual cut. This is a great way to stay casual but still sexy and fun. The gaucho pants have been firing up the fashion scene within the past year and making its way into every woman’s closet – which is great because it’s an awesome buy. They’re not very expensive either but that can always change depending on where you go to buy them. Make sure you give yourself some time to buy a new wardrobe for the summer! Even if it’s only a few changes such as a new skirt or a couple of new tops, that’s okay! Have a few things to pamper yourself with and make you feel like you’re ready for the change of season!

The must haves in shoes to compliment those pretty pedicured feet are wedges! If you haven’t already, get yourself a pair! I’ve seen some inexpensive ones (for about $35) in the Victoria’s Secret catalog. They were very cute and affordable is always cute! Also check an online website, www.zappos.com. They have a great selection of shoes in any style – but trust me on this one – wedges are the way to go this summer!

Now, once you’ve gotten your summer make-over from head to toe (literally), it’s time to take a few moments and immerse yourself in a good read. I find that the summer is the only time I find to read and it’s become a summer tradition for me to buy a load of books and just work my way through them. And it doesn’t have to be meaningful books that you didn’t get a chance to read in high school – it can be Danielle Steel, don’t worry – I won’t tell!

I hope that all the woman that read this will make sure to take time our for themselves and pamper them! With the summertime comes great feeling, the sun is out, the warm weather and you want to feel ready for it as well! Pick one or two things to make yourself relax with and you’ll know exactly what I mean! Invite summer with a relaxed and pampered attitude!
