A Look at the Gory Horror Films of Today
Sure not everything should be gory but how can any true horror fan turn down a good ol gory movie? Seriously. Last month I saw Cemetery Gates and had a blast with it. It was gory as hell and reminded me of 80s horror. This is what I want to see. Practical gore FX instead of that shitty CGI gore. Film makers need to stop being lazy and go old school when it comes to gore.
We need more films like Bad Taste, Dead Alive and others these days instead of the shit being dumped into theaters with PG-13 ratings. Some horror films like White Noise that arent about gore and deserves the PG-13 rating but theres some that are watered down just to make some extra cash for the studio. Remember when Dimension thought it was a good idea to tone down Cursed for a PG-13 to make some extra cash?
Do you also remember when the movie bombed at the box office? Good call, Dimension. Horror fans want to see gory werewolf carnage, not watered down kiddie werewolf carnage. It was finally released unrated on DVD, though. Same thing with Stay Alive, cool concept but was rated PG-13 for theaters and I avoided it cause of that. The Unrated Directors Cut will arrive on DVD in September, cause what will be added? Hmmm.
Horror fans want to see the gore and taking it out so studios can make some extra cash is a dumb idea. The only way to see the true version of the film is on DVD. The Hills have Eyes remake was just released on DVD Unrated, featuring some extra violence and gore too intense for the MPAA.
The Hills have Eyes may be not Dead Alive, but it has to be one of most brutal and unforgiving horror films Ive seen in awhile, same thing for Hostel. I want my horror and gore to be like those movies on the big screen, not that PG-13 shit that that is invading movie theaters. So is Gore, Gore everywhere? Depends on where you look, but the big screen isnt the best place, the DVD shelves are your best bet.
